Leg
and Knee Injuries |
|
The knee is the largest joint in the body and is
often
the site of injury and pain. There are
four bones that come together at the knee, however only
the femur (thigh bone) and the tibia (shin bone) form the
joint itself.
There are two major muscle groups that support
and allow movement of the knee joint.
The quadriceps muscles on the front of the thigh extend the
knee and the hamstring muscles on the back of the thigh flex
the knee when they contract.
